Win A Free Bet Of A Big, But As Yet Undetermined Amount!

Another week another chance to crack open the map, Wikipedia and then cross your fingers hoping to be drawn out of the hat. Last week we had lots of correct answers – thanks in no small part to someone publishing the answer in the comments section. In the interests of fairness/pointing out the obvious, I would like to reiterate that answers entered into the comments section WILL NOT be counted towards the competition. I briefly wrote in capitals there as if I was annoyed, but I’m not – it’s just I want anyone who actually works it out to have a better chance of winning.

So in short, use the comments section for complimenting my maps, general lickarsing or throwing some red herrings around the place, but don’t put your answer there – not if you want to improve your chances of actually winning. Now, on with this week’s competition. It’s the Open this week so to be topical, we’re asking you to indentify the golfer whose total haul of Major wins are being represented by the flags in the below image.

Win A Free Bet

Send your answer to competitions@paddypower.com with the subject line “Major wins? Well, I know for a fact it’s not Sergio Garcia”. If you’re struggling, don’t worry, you can have more than one guess. In fact, you can have a few guesses, but just don’t take the piss by copying and pasting the archives of the R&A into an email. Get your answers in before 6pm on Sunday, 17th July because maybe the map could be on the verge of being inaccurate if this player has a good few days. Or maybe I’m talking crap to make this competition seem more difficult that it really is. In the very likely event that we have more than one correct answer, all the correct answers will put into a metaphorical hat and the winner drawn at unmetaphorical random.

The prize starts off at £/€50, but if we get enough tweeting/facebook sharing and general pimping the competition around the interweb, that should increase substantially. We’re offering the princely sum for €/£1 for every retweet of this tweet and sharing of this post on Facebook, which should make the prize fund substantially bigger. So go ahead, pester your friends on social networking sites. Firstly, they’re not your real friends and secondly, they’re probably talking about such crap as why ‘Harper Seven’ is actually quite a cool name and why Transformers 2 is under-rated so telling people about this competition would actually be far more interesting.

Good luck!

Conditions
- Paddy Power decision is final. Moaning will be largely ignored.
- The maximum the prize can get to is €/£150.
- Entrants must be over the age of 18, have a paddypower.com account or remember a time when Sandy Lyle was a decent golfer and not just a middle aged man who turns up at the Open every year.

Right, time for my first update.

First up – we’ve had plenty of correct answers, so we’re heading for a raffle situation. Secondly, calling it a raffle situation makes it sound like grannies playing bingo – from now on it’ll be known as a ‘Sudden Death Draw of Conclusion. With Added Danger’ situation.

Some people haven’t yet secured their place in the Sudden Death Draw Of Conclusion. With Added Danger siituation yet and if your initials are PW, MG or your name is Anthony or Sanjeev, I’d have another go. Or, if your name is Karl Byrne, I’d have another go and lay off my map-making ! ; ) “Not sure if the map is off” indeed! The map is ‘on’ my friend, very much ‘on’! You’re actually very close to the answer.

Worst guess thus far goes to Steve B who thought the golfer we were looking for is Formula 1 driver, Fernando Alonso. In fairness he was probably looking at last week’s competition, but equally it’s not the right answer for last week’s competition and we’ve already given out the right answer for that one!
    Have another go mate!

Is this a joke answer? I don’t even know. The fact I haven’t deleted it should tell you all you need to know about it’s accuracy. Answers need to be sent to competitions@paddypower.com

This area is mainly for red herrings, complimenting my awesome map-work and maybe some light moaning.

  6. James G July 12, 2011 at 4:17 pm #

This was the correct answer and not a really long swear word like
      supercalifragalisticexpedalabollocks

Remember, answers need to be sent to competitions@paddypower.com or else not only are you not entering the competition, you’re giving people who may not know the answer, but who can read instructions better than you a chance of winning.

gotta be the duck. ….cudnt be assed sending email. maybe later. Aidan whats the average amount in the hats on these? id like a rough idea of the probability of winning. Maybe a prediction comp would be better like picking top 5 in Open and most right wins. Just a suggestion because as you stated these just need a quick google search to narrow down, in this case to 3 possible winners of just these majors. Or only let people have one entry. I dunno …just feel maybe a change is in order.

  18. mr murphy July 16, 2011 at 10:15 am #

Greg, I hope you get the Ebola virus on your typing finger and therefore are unable to ruin anymore competitions…

  20. Chris001 July 16, 2011 at 11:41 pm #

    Paddy Harrington :-)

  21. Wardy85 July 17, 2011 at 12:10 pm #

Why are people intent on ruining the comp? Utter stupidity. How hard is it to e-mail the answer in?

  22. Alan Crookes July 18, 2011 at 12:07 pm #

What was the answer and who won?
