Didier Deschamps heads the market to replace Laurent Blanc as French manager in Paddy Power’s online betting after he quit his post on Saturday.

UEFA President Michel Platini had publicly backed the Marseilles manager to take over should Blanc decide to walk away.

The former French captain won acclaim for his handling of national team’s 2010 World Cup mutiny in South Africa when he took over from Raymond Domenech.

But France who were seen as one of Euro 2012’s dark horses stuttered through Group D before being dismissed 2-0 by Spain in the quarter finals.

Speculation was rife that Tottenham were interested in Blanc as Harry Redknapp’s replacement at Tottenham but Spurs are now likely to opt for former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas instead.

Blanc is the second high-profile national coach to depart after disappointment at Euro 2012. Dutch manager Bert van Marwijk quit last Wednesday after World Cup finalists Holland failed to win a game at Euro 2012.
