Going for gold: Psycho announces Team GB

By Josh Powell

Stuart Pearce has named his squad for the Olympics as Team GB enter a men’s football team for the first time in 52 years.

‘Psycho’ received plenty of criticism last week after making the cardinal sin of overlooking English hero David Beckham. Despite Goldenballs playing fairly average in a slow-paced, poor-standard division there was uproar that he never made the squad.

The three over-aged players Pearce picked were Micah Richards, Ryan Giggs and cuddly Welshman Craig Bellamy.

The full 18 man squad hoping to lead team GB to the gold is as follows:

Goalkeepers:
Jack Butland (Birmingham), Jason Steele (Middlesbrough)

Defenders:
Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea), Steven Caulker (Tottenham), Craig Dawson (West Brom), Micah Richards (Manchester City), Neil Taylor (Swansea), James Tomkins (West Ham)

Midfielders:
Joe Allen (Swansea), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Jack Cork (Southampton), Ryan Giggs (Manchester United), Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal), Danny Rose (Tottenham), Scott Sinclair (Swansea)

Forwards:
Craig Bellamy (Liverpool), Marvin Sordell (Bolton), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea)

Team GB are 11/2 to win gold in the football and have an exciting array of young attacking talent in the team including Sturridge, Cleverley and Scott Sinclair.

Brazil are the 9/4 favourites with Paddy Power and Spain look a generous 11/4 in the betting.
