Check out our snazzy ‘Stats Likely’ football feature

by Aidan Elder | July 14, 2012

Over the next few weeks, you might start seeing little ‘stats-meter’ thingamabobs appearing around our football page. They’ll look a lot like this:

First up, let us reassure you that you’re not suffering from League of Ireland-statistics based hallucinations. Secondly, let us tell you they’re actually quite useful. It’s called ‘Stats Likely‘ and thanks to some technology we don’t really understand, it pulls in data from all over the place, does some sort of mathematical voodoo and cleverly comes up with suggested bets.

Take that CERN. You can find Higgs Boson and information about the origins of the universe, but can you tell us the chances of Bohemians and UCD scoring less than 1.5 goals in their latest meeting? Thought not. That’s what people really want to know about.

It applies to quite a few markets, so if ever you’re looking for a robo-nerd to crunch the numbers and help you come up with some bets that have a good chance of happening, you could do worse than take a quick gander. It will feature suggested bets on the following numerous markets:

  • Time of first match goal
  • Total match goals (0 to 6+)
  • Total match goals (over/under)
  • Team goals (1 to 4 or more)
  • Correct scores (1-0 to 4-4)
  • Clean sheet
  • Win to nil
  • Winning margin (1 to 4+ goals)

At the moment, it’s limited to the League of Ireland, but that’s because the Irish title race is in full swing whilst lots of other teams around this part of the world are still only doing light calf stretches and gentle jogs ahead of the new season. There’ll be more and more of these popping-up on Team Pages around the football pages in coming weeks, so if your team isn’t yet featured, never fear, it’s on the way.
