You may have already seen this stunning goal from David Beckham. You may have also seen a ‘Beckham shows Stuart Pearce what he’s missing for Team GB’ story-line wedged awkwardly onto it.
Well, it doesn’t look like Goldenballs was too bothered about making a statement in the direction of Psycho. It looks more like a 1930s bounder scoring a cracking goal for his struggling team in a glorified retirement home of a football league. Complete with a pretty cool celebration. Great strike form Beckham, but the Timbers’ defence closed him down with all the urgency of California beach bums being asked to get a proper job.
Beckham added a second goal soon after and LA were 4-1 up inside half an hour. The game turned out to a real former English leagues ex-pats jamboree with Robbie Keane scoring twice for the Galaxy, Kris Boyd matching that haul for Portland and Landon Donovan scoring a penalty in the 5-3 goal-fest.
Vintage haircut, vintage Beckham.
