Tom Lee’s top tips for Goodwood on Friday

Ch4 and RTE racing presenter Tom Lee was on the mark again yesterday with Saddler’s Rock (2/1) and Stirring Ballad (8/1). Here are his top tips for Day Four of Glorious Goodwood.

2.00 Coutts Glorious Stakes

It’s hard to rule out anything with certainty but Gatewood has been an overnight move. It will take a good one to beat him as he’s been working well with Group One and Group Two horses on John Gosden’s gallops. This is a big step up in class after his three wins but Gatewood can get favourite backers off to a winning start.

2.35 RSA Thoroughbred Stakes

One that I fancy to run very well at a price is Henry Cecil’s Stipulate who’s around a 13/2 chance. But the one I really fancy is Aljamaaheer. Was third in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, has an ideal draw and Paul Hanigan has been booked. Ralph Varian’s runner can reward punters here at about 4/1.

3.10 Betfred Mile

Anybody who is looking to this for profit is entering a minefield. Fulbright gets in here with a 6lb penalty after his Newmarket win. Albaqaa doesn’t bring such strong form to the table but has done enough in patches to chase home Mark Johnston’s likely favourite.

Paddy Power will refund losing single stakes if your selection finished 2nd in this race. (T&C’s apply)

3.45 Gordon’s King George Stakes

The sprint division is very, very open this season so it could pay to target one at a price. Ralph Beckett’s Pabusar can give us a run for our each-way money at around 14/1. He’s a previous course winner who’s been running consistently and won’t be inconvenienced by the draw.

4.20 Telegraph Nursery

Oasis Cannes for Sir Mark Prescott is upped in trip and looks likely to make a bold bid. Has the best of the draw, goes on the ground and my stable mole tells me that whatever beats Oasis Cannes will win. Richard Hannon’s Janoub Nibras is one of the more experienced runners in the field and can make a race of it with the likely favourite.

4.50 Oak Tree Stakes (Fillies Group 3)

I spoke to a couple of lads at Godolphin this morning and Gamilati has only been working moderately despite being the short-priced favourite. One I would look to for a bit of value is Survey who travels over from Germany and is the mount of Tom Queally. I think it’s significant that he travels here in good form and it’s a tip in itself that they come here to plunder some Goodwood prize money.

5.25 Betfred Bonus King Handicap

We’ve pulled a couple of rabbits out of the hat in the lucky last this week but this looks tough. Larwood is 4lbs well in here for Henry Candy but that reflected in the price of about 9/2. Has been in great form and races from a plum draw in stall 3.
