Everton v Manchester United, Sky Sports 1, from 7pm
Goodison Park
The opening weekend of the 2012/13 Premier League season draws to a close with a feisty north-west clash between Everton and Manchester United.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are like wounded dogs at the moment, having thought they had clinched the title last season but then having it snatched out of their hands at the last moment.
The dramatic last few minutes of the final day of the 2011/12 campaign will still be weighing heavily on the minds of Manchester United players, while new signing Robin van Persie will be eager to race out of the blocks.
As such, it may be very difficult for football fans to look anywhere else but the odds of 10/11 being offered for the Red Devils to ease past Everton.
However, The Toffees were also impressive last season when they finished in seventh position in the Premier League – above Merseyside rivals Liverpool.
On top of this, David Moyes has strengthened his squad with the signing of Steven Pienaar and Everton fans will not soon forget THAT 4-4 draw with United at Old Trafford last April.
The same scoreline has odds of 350/1 if fans believe lightning can strike twice in what will surely be a memorable start to Monday night football in the 2012/13 season.
Prediction: Robin Van Persie to be first goalscorer at 4/1
