Joey Barton moved to Marseille on a season-long loan on Friday after launching a tirade of abuse on twitter about his former club QPR. And it is quite apparent from this banner that his reputation precedes him!
Fans welcomed him to Marseille with a whopping great banner reading:
‘Welcome sweet and tender hooligan’
The line is also a reference to a 1995 song by one of Barton’s favourite bands The Smiths, released to promote their Album ‘Singles’.
The 30-year-old is hoping to win some silverware across the sea and Marseille are 25/1 to win the Europa League and 9/1 for the French Cup.
