Blackpool is often called Britain’s Las Vegas and Ian Holloway has had the Seasiders in party mood for years.
Despite relegation from the Premier League two seasons ago they very nearly went straight back up last season but were denied in the play-offs against West Ham.
This season they’ve started like they mean business again with 2-0 away victory against Millwall, a 2-1 win over Championship title contenders Leeds United and a 6-0 hammering of Ipswich. Blackpool are already in the driver’s seat in the early stages of the league.
However, Ian Holloway’s men showed their first signs of weakness this season just before the international break, when they lost 1-0 away to Leicester City.
Barnsley are next in line for Blackpool. The Tykes are lucky to be playing Championship football this season and have Portsmouth’s administration to thank for their survival in the Championship.
But they have convinced Danny Rose and Jordan Clark to sign new contracts at Oakwell that will keep them there until 2014.
And they took the opportunity with both hands shocking Middlesbrough with an opening day win.
Although crushing defeats against Wolves and Brighton have brought The Tykes back to earth, a 1-0 win over Bristol City just before the international gap shows that there is plenty of bite in these underdogs yet.
Paddy Power’s odds of 11/5 for Barnsley to nab three points at home to Blackpool on Saturday afternoon cannot be dismissed even though the Seasiders are favourites at 6/5 while the draw is 23/10.
Don’t dismiss the 11/2 about the in-demand Tom Ince to score the first goal of the match on Saturday either. The 20-year-old has shot out of the blocks this season and has already bagged four goals in as many league fixtures for The Seasiders.
