It’s started. Just when we thought there was the faintest chance of the Ryder Cup becoming a demilitarised zone the good old US of A roll out former US captain Paul Azinger for a rousing address to the troops.
Azinger who famously beat cancer was the masterminded behind America’s resurgence in the Ryder Cup at Valhalla in 2008 (16.5 to 11.5) after Team Europe had run Uncle Sam out of town at the K Club in 2006 (18.5 to 9.5) under Ian Woosnam’s command.
The ‘Zinger’ as he was known in his playing days devised his strategy on ’pods’ within the team, inspired by a documentary on the US Navy Seals.
But he’s in no doubt as to the main threat from within Team Europe this time – Rory McIlroy.
