They call it the Olympics of flat racing. But that’s slightly inaccurate as there’s little or no chance of Emeli Sande singing at it. We hope.
What the Breeders’ Cup does have in common with the Olympics isn’t the ‘at it like rabbits’ athletes’ village, it’s the coming together of the world’s elite in a variety of contests to decide who’s the best. Or at least who is best on the day at Santa Anita.
First up, it’s Ladies’ night with the females of the species showing us their talents. Our colleagues over in the more ‘yee-haw’ side of the Atlantic have been looking at the card. Brian Blessing and Gelman Gelding gives us the rather Stars and Stripes tinted view of day one.
