Betting news on QPR, Villa and the Hennessy Gold Cup

Football

Harry Redknapp will try to bring some joy to QPR fans tonight as the London club travel to Sunderland in the Premier League still looking for their first win of the season.  The Aston Villa faithful will also want their team to get the finger out sharpish against Reading at home in one of the first relegation ‘six pointers’ of the season.

Racing

Racing today is very much in doubt. Southwell and Sedgefield have both been abandoned due to waterlogged tracks but Lingfield has somehow made it. That track has redefined the word bottomless and the unofficial going is ‘heavy, like a small lake in places’.

Bobs Worth heads 22 runners declared in Paddy Power’s ante-post list for the Hennessy Gold Cup on Saturday. The RSA Chase winner at Cheltenham and general 3/1 favourite for Saturday is not a certain runner however as the ground is likely to be on the heavy side for the second-season chaser. Trainer Nicky Henderson will visit the track later today before making a final call.

Further north on Saturday, the Fighting Five Hurdle takes place at Newcastle with last season’s Champion Hurdler Rock on Ruby declared among the six runners for trainer Harry Fry.  Donald McCain’s Supreme Novice Hurdle winner Cinders and Ashes is the 6/4 favourite with Paddy Power, while Triumph Hurdle victor Countrywide Flame priced at 9/2.
