Newcastle v Wigan, Live on Sky Sports 1,
Alan Pardew has to find a win. He’s blamed lots of things for Newcastle’s inability to emulate last season. They are about 12 points behind where they were last year and they need to start winning games. The Europa League is gone now so they can forget about that until March and start focusing on their home form and their league form.
They did alright against Stoke in midweek, they took the lead late and might well have held on. But in fairness they didn’t defend well in the last ten minutes and they conceded two goals.
Wigan can go up there and make life difficult for Newcastle. The system they play makes them very hard to beat and that was evident when they played Manchester City. Wigan can definitely take a point from St James’ Park at 12/5.
Jordi Gomez will be full of confidence but he isn’t a natural goalscorer. Arouna Kone might be a better bet to open the scoring at 8/1. He had a wonderful chance with a header against Manchester City and will play right up top through the middle. Jordi Gomez will be one side and Franco Di Santo the other. Di Santo is another man who can get on the scoresheet and is 11/4 to score anytime.
