Lisbon Treaty Referendum: Touch and Go!

With polling on the Lisbon treaty now well and truly underway both camps have every reason to be nervous.

Polls have been seesawing up and down in the last two weeks with a recent poll showing a ‘Yes’ vote with a narrow lead of 3 points while one poll last week placed a ‘No’ vote in the lead by as much as 5 points.

It’s hard to believe looking at the betting today that we were once long odds on at 1/8 that the treaty would be ratified. It’s touch and go now. A ‘Yes’ vote is still our favourite at 2/7 but at 9/4 the ‘No’ side is in with more than a fighting chance.

It’s the undecided voters who’ll swing the difference in the end. Either way, Ireland holds the power in the palm of their hands as Europe wait with baited breath as to what the decision will be.

For what it’s worth, my money is on no. Not because of my political preference, but because all the momentum seems to be in a shift towards a no vote. Whatever the outcome I’m sure there’ll be an exit poll of some kind pretty soon and of course a total count tomorrow… on Friday 13th of all days!

The Irish who vote YES are just naive twats who surender their country to Brussels…
Soon You will have the Republic for which one so many shed their blood replaced with some Irish State of the EU. Once upon a time there was Republic of Ireland…
    Do not understand these peps….
Hey Paddies ! Protect Your Identity , protect Your Language ! Vote NO. Do not Brussels decide whether to smoke in the pubs or not….it is Your country! Decide for Yourselves !
EU instead of following the example of the US where each state has some authonomy , own laws and regulations is getting now closer to the Soviet Union…becoming very much a centralized socialist Union …and it is going to be very hard to get out of this EUtopia.
    So…the last laughter belongs to …..LENIN :)
As for Poland I am very much opposing Polish membership in the EU…For God’s sake we are almost 40 mil. nation and we would make it on our own without that bloody EU…
My Swiss friends were saying ‘The Poles are mad , what do You need that EU for? Achive the success Yourself , might take longer , but You will be proud of it, instead listening later to the comments like in Ireland ….Ireland is well off coz of the EU and its money ‘
For people who want to work outside of Poland there wouldn’t have been a problem anyway…If You good , well educated , can work today anywhere in the world…

A right wing pole eh? And eh sorry but there was wide spread favour for the smoking ban and we were the first to do it, way ahead of everyone else and the EU.

but yeah shouldve backed no instead of lumping €45 on Germany

  3. Irish Says:

A pole your comments are retarded. I think my child knows more about politics than you do. Get a life, and put down that spliff.

  4. A Pole Says:

Hey Irish , I am happy that You have such a smart child …but I am afraid it is only YOUR ILLUSION. Coz only average people think they are special :) and theink they know more that others do…and each magpie praises its own tail…
I have lived in Ireland for many years and quite like the people and the country but it is really embarassing to see the people of Ireland who do not speak their language , know nothing about the history of Ireland or Europe and politics…and please do not take it as an offensive comment but rather as comment of Your friend ‘that You have a dirty face as well’
But let’s not forget that the Life is not about the knowledge coz everybody has it but about the WISDOM!
    Cya

  5. Magic M Says:

If it wasn’t for the EU you wouldnt be in the country

  6. A Pole Says:

Magic , I have lived in Ireland / other EU states and quite a few other countries around the globe a long time before PL joined the EU. My education and work experience are my work permit /green card to anywhere I want …I voted NO to the EU and always will…

  7. Stephen Says:

A Pole. your comments are well put, but quite ideological. Ideology is all well and good, it sounds great - but it is in no way practical (obviously!).
The Irish people’s ability to stay real and practical is why we have achieved what we have politically and economically to date.

    All the best
