Friday 13th couldn’t get any unluckier for us it has to be said.
After a flood of support for a Yes vote last night we made the hasty decision to payout on the Lisbon Treaty getting passed. Our record in recent years on calling the results of political betting has been excellent but this time we’ve well and truly ended up with egg on our faces.
With everything now pointing to a No vote, not only will we have to suffer the embarrassment of being wrong but we’ll also have to cough up an extra €100k+. The Lisbon Treaty might have cost the Government but it has cost Paddy Power too and left us with a gaping hole in our pockets for over €180,000.
Some might say we got what we deserved and maybe they’re right. Friday the 13th eh? Unlucky for some but not for Paddy Power punters!
The question now is, where do we go from here? Even the Taoiseach himself said there was no ‘Plan B’ if the treaty got rejected. The Lisbon issue looks far from over. Will we see a ‘Nice’ re-run? You can bet we’ve not heard the end of it just yet!

I wonder whether the Brussels Sprouts will ‘ask’ You to vote once again as they had done it in the past !
I am a bit afraid of that…as they won’t take the ‘NO’ vote that easly…

NO NO NO what have yee done yee NO voters; do you really believe both main political parties + IFA + buisness leaders, would all combine to sell the Island of Ireland down the river…. methinks not… regardless of any political affiliation or no political interest… do you really believe all above mentioned informed individuals and bodies would genuinely sell us down the river… I say again, methinks not!!! and I don’t claim to have any great insight or knowledge of politics or EU as such; but, I say again, methinks not!!!
I think the NO voters were duped, and most were manipulated due to their general ignorance; and I do believe it was a deliberate ploy just to upstage the main parties rather than to do with EU policy regardless of consequences good/bad/indifferent consequences… a lot of NO voters due to their general political and educational ignorance were manipulated by NO campaign
Patrick, Ballymun, of no political affiliation or great political knowledge
