The thorny issue that is picking the Rose of Tralee winner is upon us again. Having missed out on being an escort on the grounds that I had “ulterior motives” for a fifth time, we decided to find another way to harass the ‘lovely girls’ who look set to blossom in Kerry – there’s some extensive weeding to be done in this garden first though. From my gardening experience, the judges have a tough job. Despite the landslide in the Kingdom, the girls’ spirits are high and some of them have kindly displayed their more wholesome qualities like snorting coke with their escorts like showing us their Irish dancing skills, explaining how their ‘dream’ was to be a rose before they were too old and how their great grandfather twice removed hails from Kilkynee.
