She’s a self confessed ‘hockey mom’ but has Sarah Palin got the stick to swing support in the direction of Senator John McCain for President?

She’s certainly been in the media spotlight since it was announced she’d stand as McCain’s running mate.

Not only did Palin rock the first day of the Republican National Convention on Monday by announcing that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter was pregnant, but allegations also emerged that she abused her powers as Alaska governor when she tried to get her brother-in-law at the time fired. On top of this her husband Todd was reportedly arrested for drink driving more than 20 years ago.

So…did McCain really take on the former beauty queen/hockey mom before giving her the once over? I mean did nobody think to vet her before she was unveiled to the sweet US of A?

Of course they did! She’s the quintessential all American mom. In fact, what McCain is doing right now could be cleverest campaign you’ll ever see in a US Presidential Election.

She ticks all the boxes. The McCain camp has what Obama’s camp lacks – a woman’s touch, the female vote, the Hillary Clinton factor. Granted, Palin is no Hillary Clinton but let’s not forget Troopergate, Travelgate and Lewinskygate! As families go I think it’s fair to say the Clinton’s have had more than their fair share of ups and downs!

In a time of war, terrorism, recession, and economic difficulties aren’t there worse things to worry about than an unplanned pregnancy?

In fact, aren’t the Palin’s just a wonderful all encompassing example of what a typical family should be like. They’re faithful, ambitious, united, together, happy and proud but most of all they’re strong.

McCain and Co knew exactly what they were doing when they chose Palin, but whether or not all this media attention during convention week will hamper or help the Republican’s campaign remains to be seen.

It was always going to take something extraordinary to take the focus off Obama. There was a time when Obama dominated headlines and one could jokingly mock ‘McCain who?’ but thanks to Sarah Palin those days are a thing of the past.
