Is it me or do international weeks always feel so incredibly slow? Or maybe that’s just the football. Still, the Premier League’s back on Saturday with all the usual thrills, spills and bellyaches that we’ll all be dissecting in the pub come Saturday night.
Which lends itself gloriously to this week’s Suggest-A-Bet and your chance to win a €50/£50 free bet and see your chosen bet up in lights on the paddypower.com by dreaming up an original and fun betting market.
There probably couldn’t be a more obvious starting point for possible football bets this week – you don’t need to look much further than Liverpool’s big match with rivals Man Utd. However there are plenty of other particularly interesting talking points well worth considering as well, not least the clash of the Prem’s two fat cats; Manchester City and Chelsea. It also just happens to include Robinho’s debut against the team he should/could have signed for… hilarious! And how can we forget the merry-go-rounds at Newcastle and West Ham?
City’s game against Chelsea will also see last week’s Suggest-A-Bet winner Martin P’s bet kick in as we see how Mark Hughes’ team fares against the Big Four this season.
But as ever, this is just a guide to what’s topical and all suggestions are welcome. We’ve even got the Ryder Cup just around the corner that shouldn’t be forgotten…
Usual deadline applies, 10am Thursday.
Over to you!

a Bet, Stephen Hunt to actually make a pass to an Irish player from a corner/ free etc- during the remaining WC games
they bought into the ‘draw’ god result mentality and thats what they got, against poor opposition, big them up all you like, they are poor; that at times, was just wasteful clueless emmm kick a ball somewhere type game maybe it’s a new sport
September 10th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
a draw was a decent result, bulgaria also only managed a draw out there and even that was an injury time goal, montenegro are a dangerous side, a side who probably would have beaten us under the last couple of regimes, watching the last 2 games beats watching how they played under kerr and staunton, at least they look organised and pass the ball better. Hunt, granted his final pass/cross isn’t always great, but he works hard both going forward and chasing back, remember he’s a replacement for duff who maybe would have found that extra bit of quality.
We haven’t got world class players and lack the back up in certain positions, but Scotland proved in the qualifiers for the euro’s that an very average bunch of players(not even as good as irelands squad) who are organised well can get close to and maybe should have qualified from a group which had Italy and france in it. At least this time we myt still have a chance of qualifying when we get down to the last 2 or 3 games. Come on ireland!

September 14th, 2008 at 11:34 am
Stephen Hunt is only useful as an impact sub in the last twenty minutes when opposition players are tired. The guy is starting to believe his own press where hes mostly known as the guy who put Petr Cech in a headguard for the rest of his playing career. That was a good point away from a side whos ranking makes them inferior in theory but actually they are technically very good.Italy will find it tough their also.Bascically Trap has made a solid start and 7 points from 3 home games that are next would put us on 11 and I feel in this tight a group 17 or 18 pts would do for a playoff while you might only need 20 for automatic qualification. In Gio We Trust
September 14th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
What’s wrong with getting 9points from next three games, is there some sort Irish-Italian agreement that allows only for a max of 7points
September 14th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
7 pts would be acceptable, but 9pts is definitely possible but the main thing is we don’t get beaten by bulgaria, we should beat both cyprus and georgia(hopefully they stick with the same keeper!) and then hopefully beat bulgaria who are a dangerous team with the 2 petrov’s in midfield and the incredible sulk up front! If we beat them which we are good enough to do we would take a huge step towards the top 2 spots. I’m with sully on this one - In Gio we trust.
September 15th, 2008 at 11:26 am
7 pts should be the minimum got.Andy Reid must play as he has the guile to pick open rigid defences.I know Im not Robbie Keanes biggest fan but seriously hes got to either get the finger out and contribute to the team and I dont mean by waving his hands around in the air trying to ref the game.My team for the Cyprus game Given Finnan Dunne O Shea Kilbane McGeady S Reid Whelan Murphy A Reid Doyle 4-4-2 formation
