1205 I managed to sneak into Paddy’s box undetected and grab a few words with his hero Mick Fitzgerald, who is busy promoting his new book ‘Better Than Sex’.
Fitzy fancies Ornais in today’s paddypower.com Graduation Chase. He says: “He stays and jumps really well and Battlecry is likely to be an odds-on favourite so Ornais is better value.”
The jock’s former gaffer Nicky Henderson got a free copy of his new book, which wasn’t particularly generous considering that he was unlikely to have got a word in edgeways for the best part of two decades.
Fitz continued: “The inscription that I put in it was ‘Thanks for 16 great years’ and he is a real gentleman.”
He fancies one of Henderson’s in tomorrow’s Paddy Power Gold Cup and with the world’s friendliest bookmaker paying 5 places each-way on the race, the 7-1 currently available on the selection could be a bet to nothing.
Fitzy revealed: “I watched Barbers Shop school this morning and I thought that he jumped really well. If I was riding tomorrow, I would come to the course with a little smirk on my face and I’d be very hopeful.
“Barry Geraghty schooled him as he hadn’t sat on him before. The horse has got experience of the course, was a very good second in the Jewson and the rough-and-tough of that race is an ideal prep for the Paddy Power.
“As for myself, I’m very good, couldn’t be better, and the only way that I could be better is if I was riding.”
Fitzy, we salute you.
