Royal Ascot - Day 2

“Don’t be sad, cause THREE OUT OF THREE ain’t bad” as Meatloaf never quite sung. World’s worst tipster? I think not! Now’s the time to turn our winnings into some serious cash / give it all back (delete as applicable) on a truly mouth-watering Day 2!

First up let’s get the simple stuff out of the way. Lush Lashes in the Windsor Forest Stakes is the proverbial penalty kick without a goalkeeper. 13/8 is about as generous as you’ll get (in fact it’s probably not available by the time you read this) and any sane punter is going to take that. I don’t even feel the need to explain this one, it’s a certainty!

Things are more interesting in the Prince Of Wales Stakes where Tartan Bearer - last year’s Derby 2nd - comes up against a couple of very interesting French raiders. Sir Michael Stoute’s horse certainly has plenty of class but there’s a feeling that 1m 2f might be a little sharp for him and that makes the rest of the field worth a look. Jean Rouget’s stable is on fire right now and there is absolutely no way he’s sent over Never On Sunday just for the fun.

But for me Vision Detat is the choice. Jockey Olivier Peslier is an absolute master around Ascot and the horse has been laid out for the this race. Throw in some top form as a 3 year old and I reckon we could be looking at a winner at 10/3.

Last up it’s the annual cavalry charge also known as the Royal Hunt Cup. The good news is that we’re paying 5 places in this one - and God knows, you’ll need them! I learned (the hard way) some time ago that Luca Cumani has to be respected in this type of event and on that basis I have a good feeling about Axiom at 14/1. I know almost nothing about the horse but as Leslie Crowther would say, the price is right!

Best of luck on Day 2.

I reckon the bet of the day at juicy odds of about 6/1 is mark johnstons horse in the 4.55 in royal ascot. Capercaillie has good form and should improve too and with frankie in the saddle, that’ll do me.
