Cheltenham Katchphrase Day 4: Game 2

We have a winner!!! Jez Gee takes the €/£100 free bet for correctly guessing Looking Out For Number One

Rightio then, this is the big one. I think this particular Katchphrase is especially tough so I’m offering a €/£100 free bet to whoever gets it right. All squares will be revealed by 2.30pm-ish and if people are struggling then, I’ll start giving clues to make sure we get a winner well before the Gold Cup…you can use the free bet on whatever you want of course but I figured this is what the masses would prefer. Good luck and good guessing.

Some simple rules to give everyone a chance.
1. No matter which saying you think the image actually portrays, it’s our answer you have to match.
2. Only one guess per person per square revealed, until the entire image is revealed and then it’s a free-for-all.
3. Complaining that the image is too vague, unrelated, badly made, artistically without merit, will be ignored.
4. You need to have a Paddy Power account to get the free bet.
5. The interpretation, bending, amending and ignoring of all rules is entirely at my discretion and if you don’t like it, don’t play.

A quick note: Please make sure to use the same email address you have registered with your Paddy Power account when you’re giving your answer here.

Cheltenham Katchphrase Day 4: Game 1

We have a winner: Rik takes down the free bet with Spanning The Ages. Congratulations.

Welcome one and all. It’s the final day of Cheltenham and there’s no getting away from the fact that it’s been a bit of a shocker for the punter, so far. Things might turn around today but whatever happens I’ll be attempting to bring a little entertainment and some much needed free bets to your day.

There’s a €/£50 free bet on offer for Game 1, all you have to do is say what you see and hope your answer matches up with ours. On top of this there’s another €/£50 free bet for my favourite answer/comment of the day. Plus, if enough people are playing, I may run a particular tough Katchphrase game for a €/£100 free bet. Good luck with this one.

Pun v Punter Day 4

Posted by Aidan at 6:51pm March 18th, 2010

Category: Cheltenham 2010, Competitions 4 Comments

And the punters finish in real style to seal 3-1 victory over the might of our random puns on the homepage! Sian Maloney had a 60% strike rate with 3 or her 5 tips coming up trumps.
- Baby Run won the Foxhunters Chase
- Koln and Mochenglad … that other German team finished 1-1
- Kevin Braniff scored first
Although we’re not bothered actually adding up the total profit she made, it’s clearly vastly superior to the grand total of zero euros and zero cents we accumulated with no winning tips.

Congratulations Sian, a €50 Free Bet is winging it’s way towards your account in the near future.

Thanks to everyone who entered the competition, hopefully we’ll have more in the future.

====================================================
It’s the final day of our massively popular and successful Pun v Punter Competition so we’re hoping for a classic to end the week. Not that we want to heap too much pressure on today’s contestant, Sian Maloney.

Sian says she’s a fan of Paddy Power’s longest ever advertising sign on Cleeve Hill, but she reckons the best sign she’s ever seen was a burning bush that appeared in front of her when she was just seven years old. It’s not that she was getting a sign from God, she was just an unabashed pyromaniac in her younger years. We are of course telling fibs – she’s still an unabashed pyromaniac. That’s enough from our fictional biography for today.

The events we’re looking for tips from Sian this Friday are:
- A top Runscorer bet for the Deccan Chargers v Kings XI Punjab IPL game
- The winner of the Foxhunters Chase at Cheltenham
- A 1st Goalscorer bet for the Portadown v Coleraine match
- A correct score bet in the FC Koln v Borussia Monchengladbach match
- A first tryscorer bet in the Crusaders v Catalans Super League match

The tips we’ve shoehorned into a pun are as follows (see the homepage for the full beauty of the puns):
- Yuvraj Singh to be top Punjab Runscorer
- Roulez Cool in the Foxhunters
- Rory Patterson 1st Goalscorer
- FC Koln to win 1-0
- Gareth Thomas 1st Tryscorer

Sian’s much-more likely to be successful tips:
- Adam Gilchrist to be Deccan Chargers Top Runscorer
- Baby Run in the Foxhunters
- Kevin Braniff of Portadown 1st Goalscorer
- FC Koln v Borussia Monchengladbach to finish 1-1
- Vince Mellars to be 1st Tryscorer
If Sian gets more profit to a £1 stake than us - and that’s entirely likely - she’ll e-walk away with a £50 Free Bet.

Cheltenham Katchphrase Day 3: Game 3

Winner!!! Darren takes it for correctly guessing Against The Odds. Congratulations.
The only stand-outs in running for the funny bonus, and there were very few, have all received free bets already so I’m making an executive decision and carrying it over to tomorrow, where the best non-winning answer will get a €/£50 free bet and a bag of goodies (whatever I can steal off marketing….so it may be less goodies and more just stuff). There will be a winner tomorrow regardless.

Okay then, here’s the last one of the day. I’m saving the especially difficult one for tomorrow so make sure you get a good night’s sleep. Say what you see and as always there’s €/£50 free bet for whoever gets the right answer. The bonus €/£25 for making me laugh is still there to be won. Good luck.

Some simple rules to give everyone a chance.
1. No matter which saying you think the image actually portrays, it’s our answer you have to match.
2. Only one guess per person per square revealed, until the entire image is revealed and then it’s a free-for-all.

Winner!!! Congratulations Pat Farrell who takes Game 2 and the €/£50 free bet by correctly guessing Lame Duck. For anyone who wants to complain that this was too tough or obscure, see rule 3 below, then go annoy someone who cares.

There’s another €/£50 free bet to be won in Game 2. This one’s a bit weird but then that’s half the fun. Just say what you see and remember there’s a €/£25 bonus free bet for my favourite answer of the day.

Some simple rules to give everyone a chance.
1. No matter which saying you think the image actually portrays, it’s our answer you have to match.

We have a winner!!: Mark takes his second free bet in three days, showing everyone else how this game is played. Either that or he’s cheating somehow. I’ll look in to it. The winning answer is Not Playing With A Full Deck.

Welcome to another day of picture guessing fun. It’s been pretty tough going for punters so far this Cheltenham so let’s see what we can do to hand out a few free bets today. As usual there’s a €/£50 free bet on offer per game as well as a €/£25 free bet for the funniest/cleverest guess of the day. A new square will be revealed every 15 minutes or so, just say what you see and that free bet could be yours. It’s not rocket science.

Good luck everyone.

Pun v Punter - Day 3

Posted by Aidan at 6:18pm March 17th, 2010

Category: Cheltenham 2010, Competitions 1 Comment

The Puns took it on Day 2 to level things up in our tipping competition, but can the Punter pull clear on Day 3. Pat Farrell has been drawn out of the hat to play Pun v Punter this Thursday. He’ll be pitting his wits against the might of completely random tips designed mainly to suit a pun that our expert team of pun-makers have been working on relentlessly.

In our now customary fictional biography, Pat is an avid stamp collector and is particuarly proud of one stamp he got back in 1995 when he left his foot a little too close to an elephant’s leg whilst watching the St. Patrick’s Day parade.

The events we’re asking Pat for tips are:
- The winner of the Ryanair Chase
- A 1st Goalscorer bet for the Liverpool v Lille match
- A correct score bet for Fulham v Juventus
- A top Runscorer bet for the Royal Challengers v Rajasthan Royals IPL game
- A bet on the winning margin in the Munster v Scarlets game

The tips we’ve shoehorned into a pun are as follows (see the homepage for the full beauty of the puns):

- Deep Purple in the Ryanair Chase
- Torres to score first @ 3/1
- Fulham to beat Juventus 2-1 @ 7/1
- Asnodkar to be Top Rajasthan Royals Runscorer @ 4/1
- Munster to beat Scarlets by 21-25 points @ 10/1

Pat has gone for:
- Barbers Shop in the Ryanair Chase
- Gerrard 1st Goalscorer
- Juventus to beat Fulham 2-1
- Jacques Kallis to be Top Bangalore Runscorer
- Munster to beat Scarlets by 11 - 15 points

If he gets more profit to a £1 stake than us, he’ll e-walk away with a £50 Free Bet.

If you just want to show off your tipping skills or warm up for an attempt later in the week, you can leave your tips or comments below. Alternatively, you can try to get in on the action and put your name down for the draw to be Wednesday’s punter by emailing competitions@paddypower.com with the subject line ‘I’m Going To Kick Your Pun Loving Asses

We got through those first three games alittle quicker than expected so here’s a bonus quickfire game with a €/£25 free bet on offer. Just say what you see…and no begging allowed. It’s very unbecoming. Game on!!

Some simple rules to give everyone a chance.
1. No matter which saying you think the image actually portrays, it’s our answer you have to match.
2. Only one guess per person per square revealed, until the entire image is revealed and then it’s a free-for-all.

Winner: Nick takes down the €/£50 free bet for getting Pencil Pusher.

Today’s bonus €/£25 free bet goes to Brian Bennett who not only did a whole lot of moaning, also made me chuckle with his Plank Stapleton guess on Game 1. Nick’s No Ikea comment was good too but he took the bonus round and one free bet per day is your lot from me.

Enjoy guys, I hope you put them to good use.
