FC Mitjylland v Manchester United – 6pm

This is the home side’s fairytale. One of Europe’s big boys turns up at their home ground to take them on in a proper, meaningful competition. Now that United have given up on a top four spot I’d expect whoever is in charge to have a right good go at winning this competition. Van Gaal has to pick his strongest team available and send them out there with the job of winning the game, getting through to the next round and eventually to the final. United must cruise through both of these ties.

Fiorentina v Tottenham Hotspur – 6pm

I love the way Mauricio Pochettino has gone about this season. He’s not fudged anything. He has moved his players about in the Europa League and the FA Cup but they’re still in both competitions. However I do feel he’s going to have to sacrifice some of his bigger players in one of the two over the next few days. That’ll show us which of the two he values the most.

For a foreign coach it could be the Europa League over the FA Cup and we’ll find out where his priorities lie with his lineups.

I think Fiorentina will win this first leg. Firstly because it may not be Spurs’ strongest side and also because Fiorentina are playing well this season. We know Italian clubs like to get to European finals so I’m expecting them to put out a full strength side and because of that, with Pichettino likely to rest a few of his, I’d be putting my money on them to win this game.

FC Augsburg v Liverpool – 8.05pm

Liverpool’s form has been and will continue to be up and down until the end of the season when the manager the manager will get the chance to get a few of his own players in. Like United a top four spot is out of reach and they’re out of the FA Cup. They have the League Cup final coming up and if they lose that then all they have left is the Europa League.

This is a game where Klopp may rest one or two but he won#t take FC Augsburg likely. I know they’re not having a great season but German sides are always professional and can’t be written off. If Liverpool don’t take them seriously then there could be a shock.

That said I think Liverpool will go to Germany and get the win. They can take the positivity of the hammering they gave Aston Villa in to this game and put themselves all but in to the next round of the competition.
