Tiger Woods long awaited return to competitive golf takes place this week in the Bahamas at the Hero World Challenge. The Woods Foundation hosted event may not be the most prestigious week in the golfing calendar but a win would see Tiger leaping up the world rankings.
Currently rated as World no.898 a win could push the former world number one up over 700 places as high as the 130th spot. There is no weekend cut for Tiger to worry about either and thanks to that fact even finishing the tournament will see him thunder up the all-important official rankings.
The tournament has a very small field with only 18 golfers taking part which will help Tiger’s chances of claiming top spot. Sadly for Woods other players in the field include Dustin Johnson (5/1) Jordan Spieth (11/2) and Henrik Stenson (9/1).
Despite the incredibly high calibre of opposition our punters are backing Tiger to make a winning return. 25% of bets taken on the tournament have been placed on him at 40/1. The next most popular amongst punters comes in the shape of Emiliano Grillo at 28/1.
It would be something of a fairy tale story if the former world number one could win this week however, after 15 months out you’d have to feel the sheer firepower he’s up against will be too strong.
At 25/1 Emiliano Grillo could make his mark at the Ernie Els designed course this weekend. Having graduated from the web.com tour in 2015 the Argentinian is soaring on the pro ranks, picking up $3.3m in prize money and winning this seasons’ Frys.com open. The 24 year old has only missed the cut 3 times in 29 PGA events and impressed in this year’s majors by notching three top 20 finishes. That level of consistency could see him to victory this week.
