It’s true what people say about stairs, you can never trust them because they are always up to something. Just ask Dustin Johnson!
The world’s number one golfer was forced to withdraw from the sport’s first major of the year at The Masters last night after slipping down the stairs at his rental home in Augusta on the eve of the tournament.
Johnson bravely managed to walk to the first tee, but felt he couldn’t swing his clubs properly and promptly pulled out of the famous old tournament.
DJ’s withdrawal had punters skipping a beat all over the world. But, there’s no need to if you backed him with Paddy Power because we’ve refunded all bets after his Steven Gerrard impression as per our rules.
With a name like ‘DJ’, Johnson should know all about discs and his lower back took the brunt of the impact.
The ripples of his absence have been felt all over the golfing universe, but not here in Power Tower as we’ve decided – as well as refunding on Johnson – not to apply a Rule 4 deduction.
So punters who backed any other golfer will get their full winnings – You Beauty!
Charley Hoffman, who was 100/1 before the start of the tournament, leads the way the way at Augusta National after a stunning first round left him on -7.
He’s four shots clear of fellow American William McGirt and five in front of England’s Lee Westwood. Rory McIlroy battled to come in at level par and is joined on that mark by Ireland’s Shane Lowry.
Despite his rip-roaring first round Hoffman is not the outright frontrunner in the betting to win the event. That honour goes to McIlroy, who now heads the market as the 11/2 favourite with three rounds to go.
