Paddy Power have crunched the numbers ahead of Ireland’s rematch against New Zealand to unveil that Irish punters are backing Joe Schmidt’s side far more than they did two weeks ago.

Before their historic victory in Chicago Ireland – who entered the fixture as 14/1 underdogs – accounted for 64% of all bets placed by Irish customers with the overwhelming 1/33 favourites the New Zealand attracting only 19% of all wagers.

Fast forward to this weekend and the nation’s punters appear to be more confident than ever with 80% of all bets backing Joe Schmidt’s charges at the lesser odds of 6/1.

On the flip side the (formerly) all-conquering All Blacks are only responsible for 5% of punts at more generous odds of 1/10.

Asked about the betting Féilim Mac An Iomaire, a spokesperson for Paddy Power, said:“It took us 111 years to beat them for the first time, but an overwhelming majority of our customers are of the opinion that we can do it again this weekend.

“With our business hats on we should be shouting for an All Blacks win, however we’ll be firmly in Ireland’s corner and will be delighted to pick up the tab for the celebrations should they manage to get the job done again.”

Despite what Steve Hansen might think the All Blacks are the 16 point favourites for tomorrow’s contest with NZ -16 considered 10/11 shot, while Ireland +16 are available at the same odds.
